Hurray; I love the snow, and
So, my boyfriend is trying to convince me to purchase “World of Warcraft,” so that we can combat creatures together. As enticing as that really sounds, I really do not think that I should. I mean, I only allow myself to play “The Sims” when I am on breaks from school, because I know that it sucks one’s life into a virtual world. I have played “World of Warcraft” at my boyfriend’s before, and it really is something I think I would like to play on a regular basis, it is just that I hate feeling unproductive when I need to get things done. I am not saying my boyfriend is unproductive, because he is not; it is just that I allow myself to feel guilty for playing games like that. Wow, I sound entirely too based in business. Maybe I should allow myself to have virtual fun once in a while.
Besides, I promised myself I would spend my free time writing and reading for fun. In doing so, I feel better about technology, because I do not have to spend every waking hour utilizing it. This is exactly why I write in a journal and refuse to use a computer when recording entries.

Hey Rachel,
I can identify with your virtual guilt. I have not played Sims or Warcraft but even spider solitare can cause me wasted hours and guilt. I really like to play it though and I can justify it by saying it's good for the brain. About once a week I allow myself a few games. Whatever it is, you do need to give yourself permission to have a bit of down time every now and then!
I waste too much time as is on the web. I suffer from chronic e-mail checking and Xbox gaming. I would hate to picture myself addicted to WoW -- It is rumored to be like crack for nerds, so I would have no choice.
AHH! I actually just canceled my WOW subscription. It is...addicting to say the least. I've been quite proud of myself here lately that I haven't been letting it distract me (Of course, I've been so good that I haven't been playing at all!) But I can say that many days of procrastination happened because of WOW!!
03WOW! I can honestly say I have never heard of WoW! I am so behind. Your blog makes me laugh Rachel, it is very natural, not forced and I appreciate that. I, like Helen, totally understand about playing games on the computer. Mahjong tiles always suck me in. I sware its the noise they make when you zap a bunch of them away. I cannot get enough of it. Anyways you have to do it every once in a while. Sometimes it is just nice to not have to think so much about what your doing!
Yeah for snow days! I feel your pain, my vice is not a virtual game but watching old episodes of shows (like Guiding Light) on YouTube. I can literally waste an entire evening! It's best to pretend those things don't exist when you have homework to do. Ignorance is bliss!
